Ehsan Rasoulof, producer of “Regional & Ritual Music Festival of Iran” asked me to take portraits of some folk musicians who were invited to Tehran for the event.
These musicians are the last generation of masters of a form of music that will soon pass into oblivion. I photographed these men on Tehran’s hilltops, placing them in the foreground, leaving the city of Tehran in the background. To me, the musicians become as statues, like last men standing beyond the constructions and buildings which are expanding to wipe off tradition and purity.
